Dr. Brian Kirkwood DDS finished dental school training at Indiana University School of Dentistry and earned a Doctor of Dental Science DDS degree. While attending Ball State University, he earned a double Bachelor of Science Major in Biology and Pre-Med/Pre-Dental, as well as a Classical Culture Minor. Dr. Brian Kirkwood DDS finished dental school training at Indiana University School of Dentistry. Dr. Brian Kirkwood DDS graduated from New Palestine High School. The Indiana University Dental training was just the beginning, as he strives to gain 2-3 times the Indiana State Dental Board license requirements for Continuing Education per year. He believes that dental training is ever ongoing, as methods, materials and equipment is changing and evolving. Dr. Trent, Staff and He attends Dentalcare.com, Chicago Dental Society Midwinter Meeting, conferences, meetings, seminars, webinars, symposiums, yearly (to name a few), to stay on top of the latest in dentistry practices, policies, materials, methods and equipment. He has annually donated complimentary Dental Services to the needy, homeless, those in pain, and uninsured/under-insured. In all 32 years of practice, he is proud to say that he has accepted the state's welfare programs.
He has continued to accept it continuously while other dentists jump in and provide services only when the reimbursement covers the dental costs. Give Kids A Smile®, Donated Dental Services, and all forms of the Healthy Indiana PIan are organizations/plans that Kirkwood Dentistry is involved with. Beginning in High School, through college years and continuing to present, he has viewed his work with numerous philanthropic organizations as a life-long commitment to the community. Dr. Kirkwood was an active member (22 years) of Rotary International, which is a network of 1.2 million global neighbors who unite to create lasting change. He started 4 separate scholarships through Rotary funded by Countless AAU State Tourneys and other Rotary Fundraisers. He and his wife started an annual scholarship through the Hancock Community Foundation - The Brian and Charlotte Kirkwood DDS Scholarship. He was involved in early board membership and initial fundraising for the Hancock County Veterans Park. Leadership positions have been held in most organizations such as Rotary- President or Board Member for 19 Years, The Arc- former Vice-President and board member, among others. While attending Ball State University, he met his wonderful wife Charlotte. They are blessed with two beautiful children, Trent and Mallory. The family have been members of Park Chapel Christian Church since 1991. Coaching soccer, basketball and other sports while the children grew up, helped him realize a passion unknown before. Helping them out as a coach, Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader, plus a Merit Badge Instructor was an honor beyond expression. The following are some hobbies, passions, interests, and desires: Top priority is family time. Next, not in any order are: hiking, outdoors, boating, swimming, canoeing, fishing, mowing, golfing, tennis, photography, fixing, tinkering, dogs, cats, horses, sheep, pigs, chickens, gardening, designing, office setups, barn design, construction and ever learning. While in college, he was involved in intramural events such as football, basketball, wrestling, soccer, softball, track, billiards, foosball, and ping-pong. He was student staff, mentor, SOC leader, student teacher, Greek, Cancer Researcher, Service Fraternity member, Boy Scout event judge, handicapped helper, SOC leader and Hall Representative. After the DDS was earned, he was a referee for several years. High School was highly enjoyed with sports like football, wrestling and track. He participated in and thoroughly enjoyed additional activities such as FFA, French Club, Honor Society, Letterman's Club, Key Club, 4-H, 4-H Jr. Leaders, Shop, hay-baling and detasseling. While still in HS, he started a barn and home painting business, then roofed houses for 10 years.
